Vic: Report on Melbourne City Council to be handed down today

A report by three mediators to try to enforce harmony on the Melbourne City Council
which has been racked by in-fighting will be released today.

Three mediators - former Victorian premier JOAN KIRNER, one-time Liberal local government
minister ALAN HUNT and the Reverend TIM COSTELLO - were brought in last October to try
to settle personal disputes between individual councillors.

Lord Mayor PETER COSTIGAN has welcomed the report ahead of its 11am release.

He says it will act as a circuit-breaker, as a regeneration of a council that was working
very well.

According to the executive summary leaked to ABC radio, an independent facilitator
will be brought in to work with Cr COSTIGAN, three other councils and senior Town Hall
bureaucrats.
