VOTERS TACKLING SCHOOL SPORTS.(CAPITAL REGION)

Byline: LARA JAKES Staff writer

COLONIE -- Voters who didn't want to spend tax dollars on baseball-diamond dust will revisit polling booths in about two weeks to decide the fate of all sport programs in the South Colonie school district.

Angered by what Teamsters Local 294 negotiator Kevin Hunter called fat in the budget, voters on May 8 rejected a proposed $47.5 million plan for the upcoming school year. Among other items, the budget called for spending $18,000 on brick dust for baseball diamonds and a $26,000 lawn mower.

But with the budget's defeat, sport teams at Colonie Central High School are in jeopardy of losing funding as well.
